I find it extremely difficult to select my “favorite” images, but perhaps this collection holds a special place in my heart for various reasons: some were made under rare, hard-to-repeat conditions, others capture moments before the ever changing west coast forest itself forever reshaped the scene. Each image carries a story of patience, luck, and the unpredictable life of the woods that transforms ordinary scenes into singular memories that feel impossible to reproduce.
The ancient giant stands as a silent sentinel at the edge of the forgotten foggy grove, a stoic watchman frozen in time. Here, the modern world ceases to exist.

The heavy rain finally stops, leaving trees completely drenched. As the cold morning sun breaks through the clouds and light hits the wet bark, columns of thick white mist twist and rise into the crisp air, making the tree look like it is smoking. Tranquil, serene atmosphere of an ancient woodland. Towering evergreen trees, lush green moss, and soft morning fog rolling through the canopy, I’m revisiting this addictive location often to further endorse my addiction to these forests. Vancouver’s North Shore rainforest, West Coast Canada.

This might not look like a classic Canadian winter scene, but it was taken right in the middle of it — this is West Coast winter. These scenes are gorgeous in real life but can be tricky to translate into a photograph. In this instance the fog did the work for me, diffusing the light just enough to reduce contrast and preserve delicate detail. Shadows softened, highlights calmed, and the scene kept its atmosphere without losing structure ... North Vancouver, BC, Canada

At first glance, this photograph captures a majestic old-growth forest draped in vibrant green moss. Look closer at the center, a beam of sunlight illuminates a mossy tree trunk in such a way that it uncannily resembles a hidden witch and her small apprentice standing together in the woods. Or am I imagining things ?

Captured in the deep, moss-covered rainforest of Vancouver’s North Shore, this piece features a complex matrix of fallen trees shrouded in West Coast morning fog.
One of my “puzzle solver” locations, I re-visit those after heavy winds, there’s always some extra pieces added/altered, it’s been years and I’m still waiting for the right mixture of light and fog I have in mind, it’ll come one day. Or maybe not . . .
