This might not look like a classic Canadian winter scene, but it was taken right in the middle of it — this is West Coast winter. These scenes are gorgeous in real life but can be tricky to translate into a photograph. In this instance the fog did the work for me, diffusing the light just enough to reduce contrast and preserve delicate detail. Shadows softened, highlights calmed, and the scene kept its atmosphere without losing structure ... North Vancouver, BC, Canada
